A trip to Warsaw is not complete without a visit to a traditional Polish restaurant and in Warsaw, you are really spoilt for choice especially around the Old Town area.

Located perfectly between the popular shopping area of Nowy Swiat and the charms of Warsaw Old Town is a very special traditional Polish restaurant; the type of place where the locals like to eat because the food is of the highest quality and the atmosphere is homely, friendly and well! - traditionally Polish!

Unlike some polish restaurants in and around the Old Town, Restauracja "PIEC" is traditional without being OTT on the Polish theme or OTT on the price!

Restauracja "PIEC" is the kind of place where you sit down for a meal and leave 5 hours later! You just don't want to go! Krzysztof (the owner) will always take the time to speak to you and make you very welcome and will happily explain the menu to you and provide you with recommendations about what to drink from his very well-stocked bar.

The menu is just the right size, not too big to make it too difficult to choose a meal and not too small to make you feel that there's not enough choice!

Just reading the menu (which has also been translated into English) makes your stomach rumble and by the time you get to the deserts, you will be licking your lips in anticipation.

The Pierogi (Dumplings) are just great and the choice of filling ranges from smoked bacon, roasted onion, mashed potatoes and cream cheese to traditional boiled cabbage and mushrooms to beef seasoned with 3 kinds of pepper and prices are just 16 zl.

From sumptuous beef dishes to delicious pork dishes to mouth-watering specialities such as Warsaw style pork knuckle or seasoned Hunter's stew, there's something for everyone here at Restaurant "PIEC".

Iwona and myself decided to start proceedings with the Royal Salad consisting of strips of grilled chicken in flakes of highlander sheep cheese served on fresh iceberg lettuce with garlic toast, simple delicious!

Iwona is a big fish lover and she choose roasted trout as her main course. Apparently, this was fresh from a Polish mountain stream and it sure tasted like it. Again - delicious!

I went for traditional Polish sausage straight off the house speciality page! Served with a healthy portion of chips this was an excellent choice, again - just excellent!

We both washed this down with cheesecake, coffee and a few shots from the Vodka bar.

In total the bill only came to around 180 zl (that's just £35 ish!).

Restaurant "PIEC" is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys good food served in a friendly, homely atmosphere and It is highly recommended by the Love Warsaw team. Personally, I will be going there again many times in the future.
