With so many lakes and rivers, it is no surprise to learn that Poland is a very popular rowing destination. Recently Poland has hosted the World Rowing Championships (2009) and the European Rowing Championships (2007).

In 1878. the Warsaw Rowing Association was founded and other clubs and associations in Poznan, Kraków, Płock, Kalisz and Łomża followed soon.





Eleven years before the PZTW’s establishment, the Federation’s function was performed by the Inter-Club Regatta Commission, founded in 1908, to which all Polish rowing associations from three partitions were subject.

In the year following the PZTW’s establishment the Federation gathered 19 Associations, and in 1939 their number rose to 73.

In 1924 PZTW joined the FISA International Federation of Rowing Associations as its tenth member.

In 1924 Polish rowers took part in the 9th Olympic Games in Paris for the first time, entering two crews, a single and a four, into competition. They won their first Olympic medal (bronze) during their second Olympic appearance in 1928 in Amsterdam.

From 1925, Polish rowing crews participated in the European Championships till their last appearance in 1938. The rowers returned to the European courses after the Second World War in 1947, in Lucerne.

XX Wielka Wioślarska Brda Cup

We are pleased to present you with an offer of cooperation in the organization's most prestigious rowing regatta in Poland: Great Rowing Cup Brda, held under the auspices of the City Council and the Mayor of Bydgoszcz.

At Brda from several years of regular playing we host successful British rowing clubs and universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, London, Leander, Nottingham, and others. This year, we have a chance to cheer for the twenty best Polish crews and the other class teams, inter alia, from the UK, Germany, Lithuania and Italy.

The pride of the race will be for the fifth time already legendary Brda duel, the most famous universities in the world rowing: Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Sports competitions at the European level and additional attractions such as rowing races over short distances, contests for the audience with attractive prizes, and conducting the event as usual will provide a large representation of Bydgoszcz in the rowing celebration.

As every year, the relationship will provide patrons TVP television at the local level, and mention in the sports sites and TVP2 TVP1 and TVP Sport, TV Polonia, including entry to live in Teleexpressie. Patronage release of Great Rowing exercises Express Bydgoszcz.

GREAT ROWING CUP 2011

25th of September 2011 - Excellent location in the heart of Bydgoszcz. The event takes part between the bridges Bernardynski and Teatralnym combined with the festival, enjoying the interest of the inhabitants not only from Bydgoszcz.

The climax is the annual Race for the Brda Cup between crews from the legendary Oxford and Cambridge universities. Location Brda in the city centre makes a perfect observation of occupations by supporters gathered on both sides of the river and on the bridges!

The Great Rowing in the morning qualifying races will be academic in the cup system of short and junior race.

About godz.13: 00 event will begin on Rybny Rynek in the immediate vicinity of the race finish. There is a scene with sound system and large screen on which the live call is transferred from the race and it is possible to present the advertising material of partners.

Two years in a row the race was run by Przemysław Babiarz and previously Darius Szpakowski and Kazimierz Fiut from Gazeta Pomorska, which works with the regatta from the outset.

In the intervals between the races are provided Celtic music band performances and competitions with prizes (toys The Racing and competitions partners (including Visit Britain and the Lotto). Moreover, as each year will be held on ergometers competitions for youth rowing veterans and VIPs.

At the end will be awards ceremony.
