An architect is a person trained in the planning, design and oversight of the construction of buildings. To practice architecture means to offer or render services in connection with the design and construction of a building, or group of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use.

Professionally, an architect's decisions affect public safety, and thus an architect must undergo specialised training consisting of advanced education and a practicum (or internship) for practical experience to earn a license to practice architecture. The practical, technical, and academic requirements for becoming an architect vary by country.

The practice of architecture involves offering or rendering services that include pre-design services, programming, planning, providing designs, drawings, specifications and other technical submissions, the administration of construction contracts and the co-ordination of any elements of technical submissions prepared by others (such as by engineers) and technical designers.

Architecture is a business in which technical knowledge, management, and an understanding of business are as important as design. An architect accepts a commission from a client. The commission might involve preparing feasibility reports, building audits, the design of a building or of several buildings, structures, and the spaces among them. The architect participates in developing the requirements the client wants in the building. Throughout the project (planning to occupancy), the architect co-ordinates a design team. Structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers and other specialists, are hired by the client or the architect, who must ensure that the work is co-ordinated to construct the design.

Building a home in Poland is not the easy task it is elsewhere in Europe. There is not a standard set of rules; which apply to all areas within Poland and it is necessary to visit the Town Hall where you plan to build to confirm exactly what you can build e.g. how many floors, how large, angle of roof? Obtaining construction permits and getting connected to services can also be processes delayed by bureaucracy so having a team of professionals on your side such as a good architect is imperative.

There's no getting away from the fact that building your own house in Poland is going to cause you endless sleepless nights, whatever you have in mind for a budget (treble it) and don't expect to be moving in to your new home quickly! UNLESS - you have the right team in place.

Finding the right team of builders is difficult in Poland especialy in rural areas so using the right architect will come in handy as they will know who the best builders are in addition to knowing who to speak to in the local Town Hall.

At Love Poland, we have access to a network of architects who have been recommended to us by expats & businesses who have used their services recently.
