Shopping in Kraków

Many tourists like to shop in Krakow's central Old Town historic district which is more or less, a pedestrian precinct so you do not have to worry about avoiding the traffic. The Old Town is packed full of shops of every description and the area is always full of shoppers including the main commercial streets of Florianska Street, Szewska Street, Grodzka Street and Slawkowska Street. Here you will find retailers selling their wares ranging from designer fashion to jewellery to... you name it, it is here!

Many of Krakow's natives like to shop in any of the new shopping malls and shopping centres that seem to be popping up all over Krakow such as Carrefour and Tesco but still like to shop around the traditional marketplaces looking for bargains!

Note: Shops in Poland are closed on major national holidays, namely New Year, Easter, May 1, May 3, Whit Sunday, Corpus Christi, August 15, November 1, November 11, and Christmas. Pharmacies and gas stations stay open on those days.

If you don't want to spend all of your time in Krakow shopping, then we highly recommend that you visit the Old Town shops and Bonarka City Center which is one of the largest shopping centers in Central Europe boasting 270 stores and 30 restaurants and cafes. Big names include Empik, Zara, Adidas-Nike, Pierre Cardin and the "hipermarket" Auchan. This is a day out all by itself!

In the middle of the Rynek Glowny stands the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall), a center of trade in Krakow for hundreds of years. The entire ground floor is a market, where local artists sell their wares. Look for amber jewelry and sheep skin rugs. A great place to check out if you want to bring an authentic piece of Krakow back home.
